About Me
Hi there! I'm Sophie, an illustrator, graphic designer, and aspiring concept artist. I love to paint & draw digitally and challenge myself on how far I can push my skills.Currently, I’m pursuing a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration at Northwest College of Art & Design in Tacoma, WA.I am looking to start my career in the animation or games industry because inspiring others and visually communicating stories is my dream. I look forward to working with you!
Skills:
• Adobe Creative Suite
• MS Office Suite
• Canva
• Maya & Blender
• Digital Illustration
• Concept Art
• Layout & Typography
• Print Material Design
I specialize in using digital painting and gouache to illustrate environments and landscapes.
Fanart, commissions, and portraits done in a semi-realistic or anime style.
The Terror
Cover and spot illustration illustrations for Dan Simmon's novel The Terror. I took inspiration from scenes in the show and also my own interpretations of scenes in the book.
Lost Spirits: Forging the Past
Poster and illustration for a game similar to Stray where you would play as a cat exploring old medieval and fantasy environments.
The aspect ratio seemed better as a book cover so I created a quick mockup. Only after finishing the illustration, I realized it looked similar to one of my favorite book covers as a kid - Warrior Cats Into the Wild. The orange and yellows just looked the best against the blues than a black cat that I had in the first versions of the illustration.
The objective was to create a game poster with traditional media, and then I redid the poster digitally and with better lighting and colors. Illustration made with Photoshop and title masthead created in Adobe Illustrator.
Digital paintings experimenting with style, lighting, technique, and workflow.
Studies done from photos, some exaggerating the lighting or just adding my own, or trying to add elements that might tell a story in the piece.
Gouache Paintings
Plein Air
Paintings done on-location that took 2 hours or less. Studies of color and light.
Other Illustrations
Illustrations and designs that don't quite fit into the other categories. This also includes work that has a blend of graphic design and my illustration.
Environment, keyframe illustration, props, and character designs
Esska & The Raven
Humanity barely survives on the surface of the earth in a desolate ice age. A group of young explorers venture to structures from times before that have been frozen in the ice. The sole survivor of the young explorers reaches the lowest floors of the frozen structures. Ancient artifacts from within the earth are brought up by ice flow, showing evidence of a precursor civilization. One of them is a cave preserved by crystals and a curious artifact. Harnessing the powers from the aurora, the hero vanquishes the blizzards and ice.
Esska & The Raven is a personal design project where I wanted to reflect on my experiences living in a northern climate and being surrounded by Alaskan culture. The work developed in this case took about 7 weeks. Half of that time focused on the designs, compositions, color, and light. The other half was painting and rendering the main keyframes.
Below is a wordless short comic I created that tells the story of the events before the 3 larger paintings. The third sketch is a mood and lighting test.

Project Europa
The objectives of this project was to experiment with my workflow creating 3D modular assets and using that to create a 2D concept illustration. The design challenge was to create a space where astronauts could survive and study on the planet Europa which orbits around Jupiter. We designed different modules that could be theoretically shipped to the planet one-by-one.I designed a general living module and drill bay that the researchers would be using to study the ice and water in Europa’s surface. Presentation slides designed by Sophie Lee. Laboratory, nuclear reactor and connecting tube modules designed by Ryan Criss.

Final concept art using a 3D underlay in Maya and Blender and paintover in Photoshop.
Typography, layout, website, branding, logos, typeface design
Dunwall Travel Pamphlet
A travel pamphlet for Dunwall, the setting of the game Dishonored by Arkane Studios. The intended audience I wanted to cater to were to be the high elite and rich nobles who would be drawn to Dunwall. I wanted to make investing in its technological and industrial advancements appealing despite the plague causing some businesses to close. I also wanted to create advertisements based off of Victorian and Art Nouveau design to fit the aesthetic.
I designed and drew all assets except the map (excluding border), Timsh ediface, mock photos, and blue landscape on the front panel. I painted over a photobashed collage for the front panel landscape using screenshots from the game. For the fake photos of Dunwall Tower and Kaldwin's Bridge, I took game screenshots and photoshopped them to look like daguerreotype pictures.
Silverwear Magazine
Mock magazine cover and spread catering to young women with a softer fashion style. The masthead is intended to be a play on words, indicating the two main topics of the magazine.
e.l.f. Cosmetics Packaging Redesign
The objective of this project was to use color, typography, and design in attracting consumer attention. I explored how package design can both advertise a product and provide practical storage while adjusting the design based on the needs and desires of a target demographic.
I chose a package for lip oils from e.l.f. cosmetics to redesign. The target audience in mind was young girls in elementary and middle school as well as millennial women who grew up during Y2K.
Because the concept was inspired by Y2K, I wanted to play around with the idea of the packaging being based off of a flip phone. I also ideated the different colors, patterns, as well as what types of material the packaging would have. To finish up the project, I designed the product's packaging in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Then I modeled the product and set up a scene to render in Blender.
Website design
A mock website and brand design for Hirahara Hospital, a fictional hospital from the webtoon I Love Yoo. I designed the homepage as well as what the dropdown menus in the navigation bar would look like. Created using Figma.
A mock website and brand design for a coffee shop for both desktop and mobile.
Unifying Communities through Transit
The design brief I received was to create a poster that promotes diversity, non-discrimination, and acceptance of refugees and migrants through the Swiss Design aesthetic. The poster would be designed for mass transit locations and must communicate clearly and effectively to a diverse audience. I wanted to take it a step further and not only design a poster, but also graphics that could be applied in an environment.
Ancient Architecture Poster
An informational poster I designed and fully illustrated for print. I'm interested in history and architecture so it was both a challenge and fun to thoroughly research the different architectural styles on top of painting the buildings and designing the layout. I intend on creating more posters like these with other architectural themes.
Myanmar Unity
In the design style of Russian Constructivism, I designed a propaganda poster that aims to promote the unity in Myanmar and viewers to stand with the National Unity Government who are against the military dictatorship. Red was chosen as a main color due to the flag of the National League for Democracy having a red flag.
